I’ve lost my ability to remain stoic, that strategy I had employed to resist confrontation, allowing for someone’s own self-indulgence.

Is there such a thing as healthy repression?

Is dignity wrapped up in being honest with yourself and everyone else, or is it wrapped up in understanding everyone’s personal circumstances and giving them some ‘appropriate’ response? Maybe its not committing to one or the other. Maybe it’s finding a balance between both: respecting what you feel and reserving what you think you should say to protect something precious. 

Either way you risk something, right? You risk miscommunication, exposure, or a severance of all ties. You could gain mad respect for everyone involved. Or….
